A STRONG finish to my day!
filed in My Investments on Dec.08, 2008
Well it was hard, but the 20mins I put into my TDWaterhouse account today proved to be quite a profitable day! Now some people that I talk to on a personal basis off this site’s emails were totally trying to deflate my logic on the increase in oil prices that were going to happen as I predicted.
Its funny, sometimes people like a barber or auto mechanic feel like they understand the basic underlying fundamentals of why certain stocks go up or down. When you try to educate them and correct their logic, they get defensive and invest in the opposite direction.
Like I have said before, that is fine. If you feel like my track record of making money off investing is not solid enough, then by all means stick to your 9-5 jobs and sit around at the coffee shops complaining about how “hard” it is to make some money. My debt free, multi-property life is apparently something people dont want. After all, I’m not forcing anyone to buying anything but simply thinking out loud.
Anyways, I digress and am sorry for the rant. Back to the wins for today.
So on Friday I bought Exxon (XOM) for $74.14/share and owned 50 shares. I know there is upside in this stock for another few days but trying not to be greedy, I sold my position when it hit my limit price of $80/share. This gave me a total profit on this company today of: $293US
Another holding that I have had for about three weeks now was General Motors (GM) stock. There was one large chance last week when the stock almost hit my magic 6 but fell right away. It could have been a good dump on limit and immediate end of day buy for another repeat performance once the bailout was done. Now again the stock surged today about 20% and my sell price of $5 was met.
So to break this one down, I bought 1200 shares at $2.99 and sold 900 shares at $5. Even with this method, my initial investment of $3588 was cashed out $4500. I basically made $1000 on the sale AND I still have 300 shares riding around for free. This means that if those go up more or stay the same, i still have more money to claim. Win-win.
In summary, today, without trading any lame penny-stocks, I walk away with:
$912 profit on selling 900 of my 1200 shares of (GM)
$293 profit on selling 50 of my 50 shares of (XOM)
Total made today: $1205 USD.
Hopefully the haters will read this profit and the profit of last week of $2000+ and understand that unless you are making over $3000 every two weeks at your job where YOU call the shots, where YOU pick the hours, where YOU decide to operate from (I worked today from a Starbucks), where YOU are your own boss, then I dont want to hear your complaints.
I show how it can be done. Not just once, but consistently its worked for me.
Happy Investing!
