Learning to Evolve
filed in Odds and Ends on Aug.03, 2009
I have been utterly busy this weekend and for the remained of this week trying to sort out new clients and work on projects that are potentially melting away in other people’s hands. At times, I find it hard to be running around 20hrs a day but when I know I’m doing something I love and teaching others along the way, I find a new source of motivation and continue to trek along.
I just quickly wanted to post the importance of keeping current with the latest technologies. I am not necessarily talking about everyone having to go out and waste money on an iPhone or Blackberry unless you truly need one, but the simple tasks of working on a computer.
Most clients that are older, have the belief that the computer is only for a few things: internet and email. With the rest of the productivity aspects worthy of being outsourced. That is fine by me if you have the money to spend on hiring staff to use a simple word-processor and making spreadsheets. But my job when you hire me is to find ways to stretch margins and help pull down costs while padding that bottom line.
There are various computer based training programs available. I have found that some are worth checking out of you are looking to learn and help expand your knowledge and thereby be more productive.

It is definitively important to evolve yourself. If you don’t you will be left in the dust by your competition and new comers to the field. Currently… I am a student (junior) right now as a Finance Major, and I was really surprised at just how knowledgeable my Accounting teacher was. The man is in his 60s, and he has been an accountant all of his life, but yet… he is working the Excel and everything on the computer like he was a young guy like myself. He tell us how he is constantly having to evolve and improve himself to keep up with the technologies, and changes in the field.
Till then,
Jean

Your 100% correct Jean. The corporate world is a jungle and you need to adapt to changes or will get eaten up! Best of luck on the major (you picked a good one to be in my friend!).
Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Aman, it Should be a fun semester coming up at the end of August, now is when I really get into my “core” Finance classes. 2 Classes in particular that I will be taking this next semester will be on Money And Banking, and the other fun course will be on Corporate Finance. Should be a fun challenge, that’s for sure. Especially the Corporate Finance course, alot of people say it is a hard course to take, because the professor really challenges the students. Which sounds bad for most, but sounds good to me!
Till then,
Jean
